🌸 Signs, Symptoms & Complications of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) doesn't always announce itself with severe pain. In fact, some women have mild symptoms—or no symptoms at all—which is why it can go unnoticed until complications develop.

Common signs and symptoms include:

- Persistent lower abdominal or pelvic pain.
- Unusual vaginal discharge, sometimes with a foul smell.
- Pain during sexual intercourse.
- Pain or burning while urinating.
- Irregular menstrual bleeding or spotting between periods.
- Fever, chills, or feeling generally unwell.

When left untreated, PID can cause serious complications. The infection may damage the fallopian tubes and other reproductive organs, increasing the risk of:

- Infertility (difficulty getting pregnant).
- Ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy that develops outside the uterus).
- Chronic pelvic pain that can last for months or years.
- Recurrent episodes of PID.

The good news is that early diagnosis and prompt treatment can prevent many of these complications. If you notice persistent pelvic pain, unusual discharge, or any of these symptoms, don't ignore them. Seek medical attention as early as possible.

Your body often gives warning signs—listen to it before a small infection becomes a lifelong problem. 💗
