What happened to this Japanese loan/project?

According to reports from August 2025:

*What happened:*
1. *The $238 million loan was secured from JICA* - Japan International Cooperation Agency
2. *When announced*: Friday, August 22, 2025 at TICAD9 in Yokohama, Japan
3. *Who announced it*: Federal Ministry of Power, after engagements led by President Tinubu and Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu

*What the loan is for:*
The money + N19 billion counterpart funding from FEC will finance:
- 102.95km of new 330kV double circuit lines
- 104.59km of 132kV double circuit lines
- 4 new 330/132/33kV substations
- 2 new 132/33kV substations
- Multiple line bay extensions
Goal: expand the national grid, improve efficiency, and reduce system losses

*Key quote:*
> “The $238 million JICA loan, backed by Federal Executive Council counterpart funding of N19,083,192,805.30, will finance the expansion of the national grid.”

The Minister also said engagement with Japanese companies like *Toshiba, Hitachi, and Japan’s Transmission & Distribution Corporation* was crucial to the deal

So it’s been secured/announced. The next step would be project implementation and disbursement by JICA.
