ABIA STATE GOVT TO HOST 2026 ZONAL TRADITIONAL RULERS' CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP
The Abia State Government, through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in collaboration with the 17 Local Government Councils, will host the 2026 Zonal Traditional Rulers' Capacity Building Workshop aimed at strengthening the capacity of traditional institutions to effectively promote peace, security, good governance and sustainable development across the state.
The workshop, with the theme "Strengthening Traditional Institutions for Peace, Security, Inclusive Governance and Sustainable Community Development in Abia State," is designed to equip traditional rulers with contemporary leadership, conflict resolution and community development strategies that will enhance their vital role as custodians of culture and partners in grassroots governance.
The zonal workshops have been scheduled as follows:
1. ABIA CENTRAL SENATORIAL ZONE
- Date: August 6–7, 2026
- Time: 9:00 a.m. daily
- Venue: Umuahia North Local Government Headquarters
2. ABIA SOUTH SENATORIAL ZONE
- Date: August 12–13, 2026
- Time: 9:00 a.m. daily
- Venue: Aba Town Hall
3. ABIA NORTH SENATORIAL ZONE
- Date: August 19–20, 2026
- Time: 9:00 a.m. daily
- Venue: Ohafia Local Government Headquarters
The workshop underscores the commitment of the administration of His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, to empowering traditional institutions as indispensable partners in fostering peaceful coexistence, enhancing grassroots security, deepening inclusive governance, and driving sustainable community development throughout Abia State.
All traditional rulers across the respective senatorial zones are expected to attend promptly and participate fully in this strategic capacity-building programme.
