Causes & Risk Factors of PID
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) is most often caused by bacteria that travel from the vagina or cervix into the uterus, fallopian tubes, or ovaries. Untreated sexually transmitted infections (STIs), especially chlamydia and gonorrhoea, are the most common causes.

Your risk of developing PID is higher if you have unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners, a previous STI or PID, or delay treatment for vaginal or cervical infections. The good news is that many cases of PID can be prevented through safer sex practices, regular STI screening, and seeking prompt medical care when symptoms appear.

Protect your reproductive health—early treatment can prevent serious complications.
