During his usual monthly briefing, Minister Nyesom Wike pointed out that Bode George constantly talks about corruption despite being corrupt himself. In a bombshell allegation, the minister claimed that the House Bode George lives in Maitama was built with Rivers State money. Wike's revelation reminds me of the Chichidodo bird in Ayi Kwei Armah's The Beutiful Ones Are Not Yet Born. The Chichidodo abhors dirt and filth, yet it feeds on maggots and rotting wastes. Who among those shouting "kill corruption" is not themselves enabled by a corrupt lifestyle? Until you hear about the behind-the- scenes sordid deals of those claiming they want a better Nigeria, real hypocrisy will indeed look like child's play.
