Dear Family,
Good morning.
I’d love for us to start sharing more of our own history and stories here. So much of what we’ve been taught about Africa comes from outside perspectives, and I believe there’s real value in reclaiming and telling these narratives in our own voices.
One example that always makes me pause is the idea of “discoveries.” How can someone like Mungo Park be said to have discovered the River Niger when our ancestors were fishing its waters long before he was born?
I think exploring topics like this — our true histories, overlooked stories, and the ways the past still shapes the present — could be a meaningful direction for this platform. What do you all think?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Good morning.
