Recently, a friend and I were on a business trip to Ibadan,from Otta. We came to a police check point, 15 miles before getting to Ibadan. Our driver produced all papers requested by the safety officers. Then, they ordered the driver to step out of the car, he complied. We were there for another 15 mins. I had to ease myself, so I stepped out towards the nearby bush. I overheard them talking about tyre, so I took a look at our tyres. I looked at the police pick-up tyres, parked behind us. I opened my cell phone camera, and took pictures of both vehicles tyres and went back inside the car, saying nothing. Instantly, our driver was dismissed. He later informed us that, since all papers were in order, they were trying to extort money by complaining about his tyres, and their own tyres were badly worn out. We wasted about 30 mins over nonsense. This kind of occurrence is daily occurrence on our roads, from safety corps.
