As a single man contemplating a relationship or marriage, I’ve got a little advice for you.

As much as possible, consider being with someone who has a source of income. This isn’t a hard rule, and there will always be exceptions, but it’s a good guide.

Someone who earns a living—whether through a 9–5 job, a business, or freelancing—often has a better appreciation of the value of money. They understand what it takes to earn it, manage it, and prioritize spending because they’ve experienced it firsthand.

When both partners understand the realities of making money, there’s usually more empathy, better communication, and more realistic expectations.

It’s difficult to be trying to build your life, save, invest, and figure things out while constantly facing unrealistic financial demands. A relationship should bring peace and partnership, not pressure.

This isn’t about looking down on anyone who isn’t currently employed. Circumstances differ. It’s simply about choosing someone whose attitude toward money aligns with the kind of future you want to build.
