🇳🇬 Nigeria Sets Seven-Week Deadline for State Police Bill

The Presidency has launched a seven-week, milestone-driven process to draft the National Policing Bill, which will provide the legal framework for Nigeria's proposed dual federal-and-state policing system.

A Presidential Working Group has been established to lead the effort. The Executive Bill is expected to reach President Bola Tinubu's desk by September 3, after which nationwide consultations will be conducted before the bill is transmitted to the National Assembly.

The initiative marks a significant step toward implementing state police in Nigeria, a long-debated reform that would shift from the current centralised federal police structure to a system where both federal and state governments operate independent police forces.
