I once knew a young lady who couldn't understand what was happening to her body.

It started with what she thought was "just normal stomach pain." Every month, the pain became worse. Then came the itching. She noticed an unusual vaginal discharge and a foul smell that made her uncomfortable, but she kept hoping it would disappear on its own.

Like many people, she was embarrassed to talk about it.

She bought different drugs from pharmacies, tried home remedies, and listened to advice from friends. Nothing really solved the problem. Instead, the pain became so severe that even walking and sitting comfortably became difficult.

When she finally went to the hospital, she was diagnosed with Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID).

The treatment wasn't as simple as taking one tablet.

She had to use multiple antibiotics for days, attend follow-up visits, run laboratory tests, and spend far more money than she expected. By the time everything was added together—consultation fees, tests, medications, and transportation—the cost was overwhelming.

Just when she thought she was finally getting better, another problem appeared.

The antibiotics had wiped out not only the harmful bacteria but also many of the normal protective bacteria in her vagina. Without enough of these healthy bacteria, yeast began to overgrow.

Now she had to deal with intense itching, thick whitish discharge, and another round of treatment for a yeast infection.

She couldn't help asking, "Why is this happening to me?"

The answer was simple: antibiotics can sometimes reduce the normal vaginal flora, allowing yeast to multiply. It doesn't happen to everyone, but it is a possible side effect.

Thankfully, she recovered after proper treatment, but she often says she wishes she had gone to the hospital much earlier.

The biggest lesson from her experience wasn't just how painful PID can be. It was how delaying treatment made everything harder, more expensive, and more stressful.

Please don't ignore persistent lower abdominal pain, unusual vaginal discharge, bad odour, pain during sex, fever, or abnormal bleeding. These symptoms deserve medical attention.

Early treatment can prevent serious complications and save you from unnecessary pain, expenses, and future fertility problems.

Health is always cheaper to protect than to restore.
