đź”´Do you know that to pull off his escape, former Bayelsa Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha reportedly wore a dress, wig & makeup to blend in as a woman?

✅Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha (popularly known as DSP Alamieyeseigha), former Governor of Bayelsa State (1999–2005), pulled off one of Nigeria’s most dramatic political escapes.

âś…In September 2005, while still serving as governor, he was arrested in London by the Metropolitan Police on money-laundering charges.

âś…Officers found about ÂŁ1 million in cash in his home, with a total of roughly ÂŁ1.8 million linked to him in cash and accounts, plus several London properties valued in the millions.

âś…While on bail in the UK, he jumped bail in November 2005. Reports (widely circulated at the time) said he disguised himself as a woman, wearing female clothing to flee the country, travelling via Eurostar to France, then to Cameroon & eventually back to Nigeria by boat.

✅He denied the “dressed as a woman” claim, but the story became legendary.

âś…On his return, he was impeached by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly in December 2005, losing his immunity.

âś…In July 2007, he pleaded guilty before a Nigerian court to six counts of corruption & money laundering.

✅He was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment on each count (to run concurrently). Because of time already spent in custody, his actual time served was relatively short.

âś…He was later granted a presidential pardon by his former deputy, then-President Goodluck Jonathan, in 2013.
