G-100 Urges Atiku, Obi, Amaechi, Kwankwaso to Unite Behind Single Candidate for 2027.

A coalition of 100 prominent Nigerians under the banner of the G-100 has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party leader Peter Obi, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to set aside their individual presidential ambitions and rally behind a single opposition candidate for the 2027 general election.

In an open letter titled The Doctrine of a Necessary Democratic Opposition, the group argued that Nigeria's democracy is being weakened by a fragmented opposition and warned that failure to present a consensus candidate would strengthen President Bola Tinubu and the ruling APC's chances of securing another term in office.

Signed by former APC National Vice Chairman Salihu Lukman, former lawmaker Nnenna Ukeje, former Kogi Deputy Governor Simon Achuba, Professor Anthony Kila and 96 others, the letter announced plans to convene a National Council of Opposition Leaders within two weeks.

The proposed meeting is expected to bring together Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso, Amaechi, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, former Senate President David Mark, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola and other key political figures to negotiate a common platform and adopt the Ibadan Declaration of April 2026 as the framework for selecting a consensus presidential candidate.

The coalition maintained that personal ambition must give way to national interest if the opposition hopes to offer Nigerians a credible alternative in 2027.

The appeal comes amid growing confidence within the APC. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo recently dismissed the opposition's prospects, insisting President Tinubu would defeat both Atiku and Obi in 2027.

Speaking on Channels Television's Politics Today, Keyamo cited what he described as the APC's electoral strength and demographic advantage, arguing that the next presidential election would effectively be "a coronation" rather than a closely contested race.

He rejected suggestions that his remarks implied electoral manipulation, maintaining that his prediction was based solely on political calculations.
