I almost got angry with my mother until I saw what she was hiding.
One afternoon, I called my mother three times.
She didn't answer.
By the fourth call, I was already annoyed.
When she finally picked up, she apologized and said she was busy.
I responded with a cold,
"You've been too busy for me lately."
She went quiet.
Later that evening, I decided to stop by her house.
When I got there, I found her sitting on the floor with a sewing kit.
She was carefully mending one of my old shirts.
I laughed.
"Mum, why are you stressing yourself over an old shirt?"
She looked up and smiled.
"I know it's old, but it's still yours."
Then I noticed something.
Beside her were neatly folded clothes she had washed for me.
Containers of soup she had cooked.
And a small bag of food she was planning to send home with me.
The whole time I thought she was ignoring me...
She had been preparing things for me.
I drove home that evening feeling ashamed.
Sometimes, the people we think are too busy for us are quietly loving us in ways we fail to notice.
Since that day, I've tried to complain less and appreciate more.
Because love isn't always found in long conversations.
Sometimes, it's hidden in a stitched shirt, a pot of soup, and a mother who never stops thinking about her child.
Have you ever misunderstood someone's silence, only to discover it was filled with love?
