Your Excellency President Tinubu, Minister of Defence Christopher Musa, and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, 240 million Nigerians are
writing as a concerned Nigerian citizen who has followed recent public statements, including the Minister of Defence’s remark: “My mother sold akamu… it is with that akamu that my mother supported me to where I am today. We respect the dignity of honest work, and we honour every Nigerian mother who sold akara, akamu, corn, or other goods to raise their children. Their sacrifices built our nation.

However, the reality of Nigeria in 2026 is very different from the Nigeria of decades ago. Back then, our mothers’ petty trading could send children from primary school to university. Farmers could farm safely. Children went to school and returned home without fear. There was no okbo haram, no widespread kidnapping, no daily killings, and no nationwide insecurity.

Today, 240 million Nigerians are bleeding. Children are kidnapped, displaced, and killed. Farmers cannot farm. Students cannot attend school safely. Past and present governments negotiate with terrorists and pay ransom. This is not the Nigeria our parents raised us in.

This is why many Nigerians reject the idea that petty trading should be the foundation of national empowerment in 2026. The issue is not the dignity of akara or akamu. The issue is that our leaders live with free housing, free electricity, full security, and guaranteed monthly salaries funded by taxpayers—while ordinary Nigerians struggle to survive.

We demand a national reset.

We demand a Nigeria where:

The Naira is strong again and respected globally.

Nigerian passports regain international respect.

Education is free up to the PhD level in the 36 states 774 LGA

Farming is modernized so Nigeria becomes food sufficient in the 36 states 774 LGA

Citizens enjoy free electricity and free data as promised decades ago.

Jobs exist in IT, manufacturing, plumbing, mechanics, and other skilled fields so Nigerian youth can work globally.

Healthcare is free, with new hospitals and schools built across all 36 states and 774 LGAs.

Nigerians are not asking for too much. We are asking for the basics of a functioning nation.

We also demand accountability. If leaders insist that petty trading is enough for Nigerians, then we demand that ministers—including the Minister of Defence—stop receiving monthly salaries and instead redirect those funds to support the 240 million Nigerians who are suffering.

Nigeria demand leadership with integrity, honesty, and genuine love for the children of this nation. We demand leaders who understand that dignity is not only in petty trading—it is in creating a country where 240 million Nigerians can thrive.

We demand a reset.
