πŸ₯ KNOW YOUR RIGHTS AS A PATIENT

Being a patient does not mean you lose your rights. Whether you visit a clinic, health centre, or hospital, you deserve safe, respectful, and quality healthcare.

Every patient has the right to:

πŸ”Ή Be treated with dignity, respect, courtesy, and without discrimination.

πŸ”Ή Receive safe, quality, timely, and emergency healthcare in a clean and secure environment.

πŸ”Ή Know the name and professional role of the healthcare workers attending to them.

πŸ”Ή Receive clear information about their illness, diagnosis, treatment options, benefits, risks, expected outcomes, and the likely cost of treatment.

πŸ”Ή Ask questions and receive answers they can understand.

πŸ”Ή Give informed consent before any examination, procedure, or treatment, or refuse treatment after understanding the possible consequences.

πŸ”Ή Participate in decisions concerning their healthcare.

πŸ”Ή Request a second medical opinion or ask for a different healthcare provider where reasonably possible.

πŸ”Ή Have their privacy respected during examination and treatment.

πŸ”Ή Have their medical records and personal information kept confidential.

πŸ”Ή Access their medical records in accordance with hospital policies and the law.

πŸ”Ή Receive appropriate pain management, proper referral, discharge planning, and continuity of care.

πŸ”Ή Have a relative or representative involved in their care where appropriate and with their consent.

πŸ”Ή Make complaints or report poor treatment without fear of intimidation or retaliation.

πŸ”Ή Receive health education that helps them make informed decisions about their health.

If you believe any of these rights have been violated, remain calm and report the matter through the appropriate hospital channels, such as the nurse in charge, the head of the department, the hospital management, or the Patient Affairs/Public Relations Unit. If necessary, the complaint can be escalated to the appropriate health regulatory authorities.

Finally, remember that healthcare workers have rights too. They deserve respect, safety, and protection from insults, threats, harassment, and violence. Healthcare works best when patients and healthcare workers respect each other.

Knowing your rights empowers you. Respecting the rights of others strengthens our healthcare system. πŸ’™
