๐ Strategy Reports $8.2B Loss as Bitcoin Falls Below Cost Basis
Strategy posted an $8.2 billion loss in Q2 as bitcoin dropped below the company's average acquisition price. The firm, the largest corporate bitcoin holder globally, now holds 843,775 BTC at an average cost that leaves it roughly $9 billion underwater at current prices.
In a notable shift, Strategy sold bitcoin for the first time in four years โ and is now funding preferred stock dividends from the same asset it had previously committed never to sell. The company's aggressive bitcoin accumulation strategy, financed largely through equity and debt offerings, has come under pressure as prices retreated from earlier highs.
The Q2 results mark one of the most significant stress tests yet for the corporate bitcoin treasury model Strategy pioneered and that several other public companies have since adopted.
