The fish in this image is a longhorn cowfish, Lactoria cornuta, a tropical marine species famous for the hornlike projections extending from its head.

Its unusual face and yellow coloration have led people online to jokingly call similar specimens the “Trump fish,” comparing the fish’s appearance with Donald Trump. That nickname is purely an internet joke, not the species’ real name.

Longhorn cowfish belong to the boxfish family and have a rigid, armorlike body made from fused bony plates. Instead of bending their bodies like many fish, they rely heavily on their fins for controlled movement.

They inhabit warm waters of the Indo Pacific, commonly around coral reefs, lagoons and sandy or seagrass areas.

They have another remarkable defense: some boxfish can release toxic compounds from their skin when severely stressed, potentially harming nearby fish.
