ALERT: Google removes AI satellite tool after backlash over misinformation

Google Earth has pulled down its AI tool, which allowed users to create fake satellite images, raising concerns from researchers and open-source intelligence experts about the potential for misinformation.

The tool was rolled out Thursday and integrates Google’s Nano Banana 2 image-generation technology, letting users zoom in on locations and build images in seconds using Google Earth satellite, aerial, and 3D mapping data.
