A close friend of mine recently passed away. After his burial, a few of us contributed about ₦30 million to support his widow, with many of the donations coming from friends living abroad.

My wife and my late friend's wife were very close, so they spoke often. One day, I came home from work without my wife noticing. As I approached the door, I overheard her on the phone saying she was jealous of the widow because of the money she had received.

Those words have stayed with me ever since. I can't stop wondering whether she was only referring to the financial support or if there was a deeper meaning behind what she said.

Am I overthinking this, or should I be concerned?

Jealousy doesn’t always mean someone wishes for another person’s tragedy. It’s possible she was simply thinking about the level of financial support the widow received, not the painful circumstances that led to it.
