My people I greet you all. I have been offline for about four days now not because I want to but circumstances led to it. The above picture are the major mobile network used here in Angola; Unitel and Africell.
Unitel is been owned by the daughter of the former president of Angola, it is the most popular and widely used network here and so no competition thus the market is closed for international mobile network investors.
Africell their only competitor is also owned by the daughter of the current president but limited to Luanda the Angolan capital. Now here is the twist, the government of Angola decided to sale of the shares of the Unitel owner without her approval because according to them she has some questions to answer to the present government. Now in her own ego she decided to hire Ukrainian hackers and the entire nation using Unitel crashed out of service. Not considering business people, foreigners using the network for translation for those who can't speak Portuguese. For about four days now no network. I use Unitel as it is the commonest here.
The politics looks childish to me and so the leaders here just limit the level of knowledge of it's citizens. An Angolan colleague said to me I rather send my kid to study in Nigeria than let him school here in Angola and when I asked why he just said knowledge is limited and he's learning a lot from we Nigerians and other foreigners.
A reasonable government would have opened the mobile network market, crash prices and facilitate the investment of new mobile networks. Greed is playing out here cause both owners just want absolute Monopoly which in today's world is almost impossible.
As am typing this am using our clients Starlink to see network. God bless Nigeria because we can never be limited to a certain type of mobile network. Bye for now
