President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s zero-tolerance policy on negotiating with kidnappers, terrorists and violent criminal groups, declaring that Nigeria will neither pay ransom nor exchange detained criminals for abducted victims. Speaking after receiving traditional rulers from Oyo State, the President revealed that kidnappers of schoolchildren and teachers demanded money and the release of jailed gang members, but the government rejected both requests. Tinubu said ongoing security reforms—including expanding the Army from eight to 12 divisions, strengthening forest guards, advancing state police with safeguards and improving intelligence gathering—are aimed at defeating terrorism, banditry and kidnapping. He also urged traditional rulers and citizens to support community intelligence as Nigeria intensifies efforts to restore lasting security.
