The federal government has reiterated that tackling insecurity in the South-east demands more than military action. Speaking at the South East Regional Security Summit in Umuahia, Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar said lasting peace requires a holistic approach that combines effective security operations with good governance, economic development, community engagement and addressing the root causes of violence. Information Minister Mohammed Idris stressed that security is essential for investment, education and economic growth, urging citizens to reject misinformation and support grassroots policing reforms. The summit brought together government officials, security chiefs, lawmakers, traditional rulers and community leaders to develop practical strategies for strengthening regional security and fostering lasting stability.
