AFROLINGUISTIC ETYMOLOGY Y ASMAU SULEIMAN, FEATURING "NYASH" FROM NIGERIA IN AFRICA

Today's African etymology word — NYASH — started as a jovial street Nigerian Pidgin slang, describing prominent or large or attractive buttocks or bottom, especially women's buttocks. I was pleasantly shocked to learn that it is already in mainstream dictionaries of the world. It got into Oxford and Merriam-Webster English dictionaries in December 2025.
