๐จ Lagos is drowning. And we need to talk about WHY.
The floods aren't just "rainy season." They're a reckoning.
For years, our waterways, wetlands, and lagoons have been carved up, dredged, and sold off in the name of "development" and "luxury living." Now the water is fighting back.
The Lagos State Government is finally sounding the alarm on indiscriminate dredging. But let's be honest this isn't new. It's a crisis years in the making, quietly ignored while bulldozers tore through our coastal defenses.
Every blocked drainage. Every reclaimed wetland turned into an estate. Every lagoon sacrificed for concrete , it all adds up.
Nature doesn't negotiate. It returns what you take.
We can't keep building luxury on borrowed land and then act surprised when the water comes to collect.
Lagos deserves better than reactive warnings. We need enforcement. We need accountability. And we need to stop treating our aquatic ecosystems like they're expendable.
