๐ Hardware wallet bug drains 594 BTC in 25 minutes
A randomness flaw in a hardware wallet allowed attackers to guess seed phrases that should have been cryptographically secure, draining 594 BTC โ approximately $38 million โ in a single 25-minute sweep.
The vulnerability stems from a defective random number generator used during wallet seed creation. When entropy is insufficient, seed phrases that appear random become mathematically predictable, enabling brute-force recovery of private keys.
Users of affected hardware wallets are urged to check whether their device was impacted and consider migrating funds to a newly generated wallet on verified hardware. No patch can retroactively fix seeds already generated with weak randomness.
