PARENTS, normalize the idea that benevolence is constant. Discipline should never be mistaken for the withdrawal of love.

A child should grow up knowing that correction is a response to behavior, not a measure of their worth. When affection is withheld as punishment, children often learn the wrong lesson: that love is conditional, acceptance is earned, and mistakes make them undeserving of care.

Healthy discipline communicates, "What you did was wrong, but you are still deeply loved." It sets boundaries without threatening belonging.

Children raised in an atmosphere where benevolence remains constant are more likely to develop secure identities, healthier relationships, and the confidence to admit mistakes without fearing rejection. They learn that accountability and love can exist together.

The goal of discipline is not to make a child question whether they are loved. It is to help them become people who know they are loved enough to be corrected.
