Politics in Nigeria never disappoints. Yesterday's "enemy of the people" suddenly becomes today's "leader," and yesterday's "fighter for justice" quietly returns to the very political family he claimed was destroying his state.

Perhaps this is the new definition of democracy: fight your godfather until Abuja whistles, then return home smiling for the cameras.

The real losers are the people of Rivers State. Their votes, hopes, and future seem to have become bargaining chips in a political settlement they were never invited to negotiate.

One lesson stands out: in Nigerian politics, there are rarely permanent principles—only permanent interests.

And before anyone asks, "Can a thief betray another thief?" perhaps the better question is: Can partners in the same game truly betray each other, or are they simply renegotiating the terms of their partnership?

Meanwhile, democracy watches from the corner, wondering when it will finally be invited back into the room.
