🇳🇬 Father arrested after teenage girl dies in Katsina

A teenage girl, Ummul Khair, aged between 16 and 18, has died in Katsina State after allegedly being beaten by her father, Kabir Sani, a commercial driver from the Shagari Low-Cost area of Katsina metropolis.

Witnesses say the assault began on Wednesday, July 29, after the girl repeatedly refused her father's attempts to force her into marriage with a suitor of his choosing. Neighbours said they heard her cries through the night and tried to intervene but were denied entry. Her friends discovered her lifeless on Thursday morning when they came to walk her to school, finding her father preparing her body for burial. She was buried that day at the Abbatoir Cemetery.

Kabir Sani was arrested by the Katsina Central Market Police Division and remains in custody. Police spokesperson DSP Sadik Aliyu confirmed awareness of the incident, saying further details would follow once the investigation concludes.
