Africa to Launch Continental Credit Rating Agency in October 2026, Challenging Global Ratings Dominance

Africa is set to launch its first continental credit rating agency, the African Credit Rating Agency (AfCRA), on October 6, 2026, in Mauritius, marking a significant milestone in the continent's efforts to strengthen its financial architecture and provide an African perspective to sovereign and corporate credit assessments.

The new agency will operate as an independent, private sector-led institution, providing sovereign, corporate, and sub-sovereign credit ratings designed to reflect African market realities better while adhering to internationally accepted rating standards. The initiative is expected to complement existing global rating agencies and support the development of Africa's domestic debt and capital markets.

I believe that it will open the locked 3 trillion dollar fund in the continent.
