53 years. One scheme. And we're still "tinkering"?

The NYSC was born from the ashes of war General Gowon signed Decree No. 24 on May 22, 1973, to heal a fractured nation. For decades, it built bridges, forged friendships across tribes, and gave young graduates purpose.

But today?

❌ Corps members sleeping in unsafe lodges
❌ Paltry allowances that can't buy a bag of rice
❌ Postings that feel like punishment, not service
❌ A system gasping under institutional rot

The Federal Government calls it "reform." Let's be real it's a band-aid on a bullet wound.

After 53 years of thick and thin, NYSC doesn't need tweaking. It needs a total overhaul. The kind that protects our youth, pays them right, and makes service truly meaningful again.

Every Nigerian who wore that khaki knows the truth. Every parent with a child in camp right now feels the fear.

The overhaul isn't just overdue it's existential.
