Every election season, millions of Nigerians go to the polls believing they are choosing their leaders. But long before they arrive at the polling units, a small circle of political elites and election financiers has already decided the candidates from whom they must choose.

That is my biggest problem with party primaries. The general population is often excluded from the most important stage of the democratic process and later presented with limited choices shaped by money, influence and political connections.
