Why do some men strongly resist marriage under the Marriage Act (court wedding)?

If your intentions are genuine and you are committed to building a lifelong marriage, what exactly is the fear?

This isn’t about saying every marriage must begin in a registry, nor is it about claiming customary or religious marriages have no value. Rather, it’s worth asking why a legal framework that recognizes and protects both spouses is viewed with suspicion by some.

Marriage under the Act establishes clear legal rights and responsibilities. It provides certainty on issues such as marital status, inheritance, and other legal protections. If a couple is already willing to publicly commit to each other, why should the legal recognition of that commitment be a problem?

This is an honest question, not an accusation. If you oppose marriage under the Act, what are your reasons?
