While sickle cell disease cannot be prevented after birth, sickle cell crises can often be reduced with healthy habits. Stay well hydrated, eat a balanced diet, get enough rest, avoid extreme temperatures, take prescribed medications, and keep up with regular medical check-ups. Most importantly, know your genotype before marriage to help prevent sickle cell disease in future generations.
