3 Things I Wish Every Nigerian Understood Before Turning 30

If I could sit down with every Nigerian in their 20s, these are the three lessons I'd share.

1. Your income is important, but your financial habits are even more important.

Many people believe earning more money will solve all their financial problems. In reality, without good money habits, a higher income often leads to higher expenses.

Learn to budget, save consistently, and spend intentionally.

2. Life doesn't always give you a warning.

A job loss, an illness, a business slowdown, or an unexpected family responsibility can happen when you least expect it.

Having an emergency fund and a financial protection plan isn't expecting the worst, it's preparing wisely for life's uncertainties.

3. Time is your greatest financial advantage.

Whether you're saving for a home, your children's education, retirement, or building wealth, starting early gives your money more time to grow.

Don't wait until you're "making plenty money" before you begin. Start with what you have, no matter how small.

One thing I've learnt over the years is this:

Your future is shaped by the financial decisions you make today, not someday.

If you're under 30, which of these lessons speaks to you the most?

And if you're over 30, what financial lesson do you wish someone had taught you earlier?

Let's learn from each other in the comments.
