TINUBU: OPPONENTS "AFRAID OF THEIR OWN SHADOWS"

President Bola Tinubu has defended the neutrality of Nigeria's electoral commission, INEC, after the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria called for credible elections and a level playing field ahead of the 2027 general election.

The delegation, led by Most Rev. Matthew Ndagoso, also called for adequate funding for INEC and election results that reflect the will of voters.
Tinubu responded by insisting INEC had "never intimidated anyone", saying political opponents were "afraid of their own shadows".

The meeting also focused on the economy, security, education and religious freedom. Tinubu said he inherited the country's challenges but insists his administration had stabilised the economy and put Nigeria on the path to prosperity. The bishops also renewed calls for the return of mission schools and equal treatment for all worshippers.
