A group of lawyers under the Obidient Lawyers Forum has filed a suit against President Bola Tinubu, the Attorney-General of the Federation, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and three security agencies over alleged threats to the life of 2027 presidential candidate Peter Obi.

The suit seeks a court order directing the President, the Police, the DSS and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to provide maximum security protection for Obi and all other 2027 presidential candidates.

The applicants argued that Obi's constitutional rights to life, freedom of movement and political participation must be protected, citing his recent claim that he fears he may not be alive to contest the 2027 election and remarks attributed to the Edo governor.

Filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the suit also asks the court to declare that no authority can unlawfully restrict any Nigerian citizen from travelling or campaigning anywhere in the country. No hearing date has been fixed.
