The Trump administration has unveiled a new tariff framework of 10%–12.5% covering 99% of US imports from 60 trading partners.
For Nigeria, the direct impact looks limited. The US is Nigeria's fifth-largest export market at N1.2trn ($864m) in Q1 2026, but Nigeria's export basket, dominated by crude oil (51.6%), fertilisers, and agricultural commodities, falls largely within exempted categories.
Quest MB Research expects Nigeria's trade outlook to remain driven by oil production volumes, global energy prices, and CBN FX reforms rather than the new tariff measures.
