President Bola Tinubu has called on African governments to prioritise investment in science, research and innovation to tackle food insecurity, climate change and low agricultural productivity. Speaking at the Africa Agriculture Science Week in Abuja, Tinubu said sustainable agricultural transformation depends on knowledge-driven policies, technology and stronger research institutions. His remarks come as AKADEMIYA2063 revealed Africa spent $122.9 billion on food imports in 2022, highlighting the continent's continued reliance on external markets despite its vast agricultural potential. The organisation also urged greater investment in innovation, regional trade and agricultural research to strengthen food security, create jobs and unlock Africa's agrifood economy.
