A group of lawyers under the Obident Lawyers Forum has filed a suit at the Federal High Court seeking orders compelling President Bola Tinubu and Nigeria's security agencies to provide maximum protection for Peter Obi and all 2027 presidential candidates. The case follows Obi's public claim that he fears he may not be alive to contest the election and remarks attributed to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo regarding Obi's security in th state. The plaintiffs argue that every Nigerian has constitutionally guaranteed rights to life, movement and political participation without intimidation, harassment or threats. They are asking the court to affirm the federal government's duty to safeguard all presidential candidates.
No hearing date has been fixed.
