Fun fact that blows most people’s minds: contrary to the popular myth, it’s not Andromeda that’s the farthest object visible to the naked eye — it’s Triangulum. In theory, at least. In practice you’ll need perfect vision, pitch-black skies far from any light pollution… and those dark sanctuaries are vanishing year by year. But a few still remain if you know where to look.

And here’s the real plot twist for the distant future: Triangulum may eventually slam into Andromeda. Whatever cosmic wreckage emerges from that collision is then predicted to plough straight into our own Milky Way.
