APC Confident of Osun Victory as Adeleke Camp Rejects Claims Ahead of Governorship Poll.
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has expressed confidence that the ruling party will reclaim Osun State in the August 15, 2026 governorship election, declaring that nothing will prevent the APC from returning to power.
Yilwatda spoke in Abuja during the inauguration of the APC Governorship Campaign Council, where party leaders, governors, members of the National Assembly and other stakeholders gathered to kick off the party's campaign for the poll.
The APC chairman described the party as Nigeria's most experienced political platform, boasting the largest network of elected and former public office holders across the country. According to him, the party possesses the organisational capacity, political experience and nationwide structure required to secure victory at every level of elections.
"If there is any political party in Nigeria that has human resources in abundance, it is the APC," Yilwatda said. "No political party can boast of the number of governors, National Assembly members, local government chairmen, councillors, former governors and former lawmakers that we have. Looking at the calibre of people assembled in this campaign council, nothing will stop us from taking over the Government House on August 15."
He described the Osun governorship election as a crucial test ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying the contest would serve as a rehearsal for the political machinery the APC intends to deploy nationwide. Yilwatda added that the party would intensify grassroots mobilisation across Osun State to consolidate support for its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Oyebamiji.
Chairman of the campaign council and Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, said members of the committee were prepared for the assignment, pledging to engage residents and convince them to support the APC.
Oyebamiji expressed optimism about the party's prospects, stating that his campaign team had continued to promote prosperity, good governance, and the Renewed Hope agenda across Osun since becoming the party's candidate.
The APC's optimism was challenged by the Imole Campaign Council of Governor Ademola Adeleke, which argued that elections are decided by the people, not the size of a party's structure. It stated Osun voters would evaluate the Adeleke administration at the ballot box and not be swayed by outside political figures.
The debate also drew comments from the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, who urged President Tinubu to ensure a free, fair, and credible election. Speaking during a road project commissioning in Ede, the monarch called for residents to vote without interference.
Governor Adeleke, present at the event, emphasized his administration’s focus on infrastructure and development as campaigns intensify.
