Oyo Takes Delivery of Two Surveillance Aircraft to Boost Security Operations.

The Oyo State Government has taken delivery of two surveillance aircraft acquired to strengthen intelligence gathering and enhance security operations across the state.

The aircraft arrived at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan on Tuesday and are expected to support aerial surveillance, intelligence collection and rapid response to security threats in Oyo State and neighbouring areas.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, the government described the arrival of the aircraft as a significant milestone in Governor Seyi Makinde's efforts to improve the state's security architecture through the deployment of modern technology.

According to the statement, Governor Makinde had earlier disclosed on July 18 that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were undergoing reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force's hangar in Lagos before their final delivery to Oyo State. The government had also assured residents that the aircraft would arrive before the end of July, a promise it said has now been fulfilled.

The surveillance platforms are expected to complement the operations of security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps, the Nigeria Police Force, the military and other security formations by improving intelligence gathering, monitoring criminal activities and facilitating faster responses to incidents such as kidnapping, banditry and armed robbery.

The Oyo State Government first announced the acquisition of the two aircraft in July 2025 as part of a broader strategy to tackle emerging security challenges and safeguard lives and property.

Officials expressed confidence that the addition of the aircraft would significantly strengthen ongoing efforts to combat crime and improve public safety across the state.
