Standard Bank CEO Sim Tshabalala has warned South Africa against policies that excessively restrict migration.
He said migrants support demand, pay taxes, start businesses and help address shortages in the labour market.
Tshabalala pointed to Brexit as evidence that limiting the movement of people can carry significant economic costs.
His remarks come as South Africa overhauls its immigration system amid growing anti-foreigner sentiment.
