🔐 Apple sued over fake Bitcoin wallet app that stole $1.8M

Three users have filed a federal lawsuit against Apple in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, alleging a counterfeit Sparrow Wallet app on the App Store drained a combined $1.835 million in Bitcoin in 2025.

The lawsuit claims Apple failed to act after one user reported an $875,000 theft — and that a second user subsequently lost approximately $840,000 through the same fake app. The real Sparrow Wallet developer says his own attempt to alert Apple about the fraudulent listing was ignored.

The case puts Apple's App Store safety claims under scrutiny, as the company has long marketed its platform as more secure than alternatives.
