COMMANDER INFANTRY CORPS CONDUCTS OPERATIONAL ASSESSMENT VISIT TO 18 BRIGADE, CHARGES TROOPS TO SUSTAIN ANTI-TERRORISM OPERATIONS

The Commander Infantry Corps (CIC), Major General Godwin Mutkut, has concluded a two-day operational assessment visit to Headquarters 18 Brigade/Sector 2, Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD in Bida, Niger State, where he charged troops to intensify ongoing operations against terrorists and other criminal elements.

The visit, held from 24–25 July 2026, formed part of routine efforts to evaluate operational readiness, assess troop welfare, and boost the morale of personnel deployed on internal security operations.

Addressing the troops, Major General Mutkut conveyed the commendation of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for their courage, resilience, and commitment in the fight against terrorism. He urged them to remain disciplined, professional, and mission-focused while redoubling efforts to restore lasting peace and security.

The Commander also reminded personnel of the Nigerian Army's welfare initiatives designed to improve the well-being of soldiers and their families, emphasizing that these benefits should inspire greater dedication to duty. He reiterated the Army's zero tolerance for misconduct, including drug abuse, theft, fighting, indiscipline, and the misuse of social media.

Earlier, the Commander, 18 Brigade/Sector 2 Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD, Brigadier General Hassan Toro, briefed the CIC on the Brigade's operational activities, achievements, and security situation within its Area of Responsibility.

Major General Mutkut also met with the wives of soldiers and community representatives, describing them as the "unsung heroes" whose support plays a vital role in maintaining the morale and effectiveness of troops in the field. The visit concluded with an inspection of key facilities and ongoing infrastructure projects within Litani Barracks, Bida.
