Every day, I meet people who say the same thing:
"I want to invest. I really do. But after paying my bills, there's nothing left."
And I believe them.
Not everyone who isn't investing lacks discipline. Many are simply trapped between rising costs and stagnant incomes.
They wake up early, work hard, pay rent, feed their families, settle school fees, cover transport, and respond to endless emergencies. By month-end, their salary has disappeared, not because they were careless, but because life demanded every naira.
Yet here's what breaks my heart.
Many of these same people carry the dream of financial freedom. They don't want to depend on a salary forever. They want assets. They want investments. They want a better future for their children.
The desire is there.
The capacity is what is missing.
This is why I believe that before we teach people where to invest, we must also help them learn how to earn more. A bigger income creates room to save. Savings create capital. Capital creates investments. Investments create wealth.
Never let anyone make you feel ashamed because you're not investing yet.
If your current season is about surviving, then survive with dignity, but don't stay there.
Learn a skill.
Start a side hustle.
Improve your career.
Build another source of income.
Keep preparing yourself for opportunities.
One day, you'll look back and realise that increasing your income was the investment that made every other investment possible.
Remember this:
The problem is often not a lack of desire to invest. It's a lack of financial breathing room.
Let's build that breathing room first.
