Favorites going into the match, Côte d'Ivoire lived up to fans' expectations. The Eléphantes won the West African derby against the Etalons Dames, securing three points after a stunning display.

Côte d'Ivoire scored as early as the 6th minute. From the penalty spot, Elloh Rebecca opened the scoring. Ines Konan scored a brace (14', 22'), allowing the Ivorians to go into halftime with a 3-0 lead. Ouedraogo Safi made it 4-0 with a beautiful free kick (56').

Early in the second half, in the 52nd minute, Burkina Faso was reduced to 10 players. The Burkinabe goalkeeper Faoziatou Ouedraogo was shown a red card after a foul on an Ivorian attacker right on the edge of the penalty area. Down to 10, the Etalons Dames, already outplayed, were powerless in the second half despite scoring a consolation goal.
