OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL 28 JULY 2026 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: John 14:3
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

This verse is Jesus’ personal promise to every believer. Daddy Adeboye anchors today’s devotional on this text because it shifts the focus from the temporary earth to the eternal home.

This passage is John’s vision of the new heaven and the new earth.

Two Kinds of People: Earth-Dwellers vs. Heaven-Seekers
“Yesterday, I mentioned that some people treat the earth as their home and final resting place. There is, however, another set of people who see heaven as their home and conduct their lives in a way that ensures they will end up there. I am one of such people.”

Earth-Dwellers Heaven-Seekers
Treat earth as their final home See earth as a temporary passage
Gather treasures here Lay up treasures in heaven
Live for the seen, the temporal Live for the unseen, the eternal
Conduct their lives for earthly comfort Conduct their lives to ensure they end up in heaven
“I also mentioned yesterday that the earth and everything inside it are temporal.”

Revelation 21:1 – “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.”

The New Jerusalem: Our Eternal Home
“The Scripture above makes us understand that when the earth passes away, people who did not take the earth as their home, those who remained faithful to Jesus Christ, the Husband of the Church, will be in a new Jerusalem that will descend from God out of heaven.”

Revelation 21:2 – “And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.”

What Heaven Is What Heaven Is Not

“When you read the passage in today’s Bible reading further, you will find out that as genuine Christians, we will dwell with God in the same city and be with Him at all times. There will be no more sorrow or weeping for us forever.”

Revelation 21:3-4 – “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”

Nothing Can Separate Us from God’s Love
“Indeed, as Romans 8:35-39 says, nothing will ever separate me from the love of my Father, and I am determined to spend eternity with Him.”

Romans 8:38-39 – “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

What Cannot Separate Us Why We Are Secure
Death Christ conquered the grave
Life He lives in us
Angels or demons He is above all powers
Present troubles He is with us now
Future fears He has already gone before
Height or depth His love reaches everywhere
“This earth is not my home; therefore, nothing here is as important as my goal of making it to heaven.”

If Earth Is Not Your Home Your Priorities Will Be
You will not cling to earthly things Eternity-focused

You will sacrifice for the kingdom Kingdom-driven
You will live lightly on the earth Pilgrim mentality

“When people see me still going on long prayer walks at my age, travelling from place to place to preach the gospel, giving to the poor, and spending and being spent for God, they may not know it or understand it, but I am laying up treasures for myself in heaven because that is my final destination; that is my home.”
