🪖 Soldier killed repelling bandit attack in Plateau State

Lance Corporal Yusuf Zakari of the Nigerian Army was killed in action on July 26 while troops engaged suspected armed bandits advancing toward Manja village in Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State.

Soldiers deployed as a blocking force came under heavy gunfire from assailants moving through Manja Forest at around 1:25 p.m. Zakari was fatally wounded during the exchange. The attackers seized his personal weapon before withdrawing into surrounding forests. Reinforcements from Sector 9 have since been deployed to conduct follow-up operations and recover the stolen weapon.

Preliminary intelligence suggests the assailants include Fulani militias from Plateau State and armed bandits from neighbouring Nasarawa State, though this assessment remains subject to verification. Military authorities have activated intelligence networks to track the attackers. Manja community has experienced repeated security threats linked to herder-farmer conflicts in recent months.
