In his verbal announcement during his Sunday Angelus prayer on January 31, 2021, Pope Francis established the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. Placed intentionally close to the liturgical memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne (The grandparents of Jesus) - July 26.
It is to be commemorated annually on the last Sunday of July.

Coincidentally, today is the 26th day of July, 2026 and the last Sunday of July.
